Apartments- instrumental
When I was putting together the cassette release of DE in '96, I wanted some things to fill out the silence at the end of each side. Most of that was easy to find, but I was short one section. I had always heard an orchestral arrangement for "Apartments", but of course couldn't hire and orchestra, so the idea sat. I decided to do the nearest thing I could to fill out that last side, using just guitar and vocal. Originally I'd wanted a trumpet to play the vocal melody. I just sang it without words. That original version was never used in its entirety, and wasn't meant to be- it was too empty sounding and repetetive. When it came time to do this remaster, I knew I'd be returning to this and attempting to fill it out. Now with virtual instruments, I was able to make things a bit closer to what I'd originally wanted. I still don't care for most virtual trumpets, but I found a nice French horn; and added piano as well. Can't say it's perfect, but I like it better and I'm certainly happy with it.
