about

This is about as close as I'm ever likely to get to what I'd originally conceived.

Somehow at the time, I thought this album was commercial. It wasn't. After distributing a fair number of copies, I became dissatisfied with the mix and shelved it. No one has heard it since, until now. I actually like it a lot, it's just different. It has the mood and balls I was going for, it just needed to be cleaned up a bit.

This was recorded when I was about halfway done recording "Night Circus". (There is actually a different version of "King Of Illusion" recorded during the Night Circus sessions.) Songs for both albums were written in the same period, between the ages of 16 to 21. About half of "Darkland Express" was from then too, though not recorded until later.

Paper Bag had been going for about a year and a half when this was done, but we wouldn't sign with SST until January '87.

Anyway, here's a 21 year old guy who was raging to make some music. Hope you enjoy it.
